The Walking Dead Top 10 Fave Episode Countdown: #5

Chupacabra

It’s probably not a surprise that “Chupacabra” is on this list as I’ve already stated that Daryl is one of my favourite characters and episode five of season two has a very Daryl-centric plot line.

In this episode the group is still looking for Sophia and Daryl decides to ‘borrow’ (without asking) one of Hershel’s horses to go look for her. Things don’t go exactly as planned though when the horse throws him and Daryl ends up in a creek at the bottom of a cliff with one of his own arrows stuck in his side.

This is such a great episode for so many reasons.

First, this marks the return of Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon. Granted, he’s technically only there because Daryl is hallucinating him, but nonetheless it was amazing. He always has some of the greatest lines and is such a sarcastic asshat, it’s great.

Second, we learn a bit more about Daryl from his conversations with Merle and with the others after he returns to the farm.

And third, this episode is also the episode explored more of Daryl and Carol’s growing friendship (which really sort of started in the previous episode, “Cherokee Rose”).

“Chupacabra” also had a lot of really great lines in it, from “People in hell want slurpees” to “He’s wearing ears!”, there’s no shortage of humour in this episode.

Unfortunately, this episode kind of led to Andrea being hated on because she shoots Daryl at the end. I was never a fan of Andrea, but it wasn’t so much her shooting Daryl that made me dislike her and more the fact that she had been told not to do anything and then did it anyway.

“Chupacabra” is number five on this list, but it definitely almost ended up higher because of how amazing it is. It definitely got moved around a lot before I finally settled on spot number five and over the next few days I think you’ll see why it ended up in this spot.

What did you think of “Chupacabra”? How did you feel about Andrea?
