The Walking Dead Top 10 Fave Episodes: #8

A

The season four finale is called “A” and this is a phenomenal episode.

This episode follows Rick, Carl, and Michonne as they reunite with Daryl and the four head to Terminus, only to discover things aren’t quite what they seem.

One of things that probably makes this episode stand out the most is the fact that Rick literally tears someone’s throat out. This is so disgusting and yet I remember watching it for the first time and not even being all that surprised because it’s Rick and his Ricktatorship.

I was definitely freaking out when it happened, but after I was just kind of like, “I mean… yeah… it’s Rick.”

Rick, Michonne, Carl, and Daryl as a team is one of my favourite things in the show just because they’re all so badass and they’re like this weird family.

Rick and Daryl’s reunion in this episode after killing the Claimers is something I know many people (and I’m counting myself in that list) love about “A”. The “You’re my brother” line is so significant, especially after everything that happened earlier this season with everyone being divided. It also really helped set up for what would happen in season five.

My favourite part of this episode, however, wasn’t even in the episode at all. At least, not the version they aired on TV.

After the entire group has been reunited in the train car at Terminus, Rick says: “They’re screwing with the wrong people.”

However, on the DVDs Rick says: “They’re fucking with the wrong people.”

This is soooo much more badass. I know they couldn’t include that line on cable TV, but oh my gosh it sounds so much more amazing. Especially considering everything Rick had done up to that point like, you know, ripping out someone’s jugular with his teeth!

“A” is definitely one of the best episodes in the whole series which is why it’s included in my Top 10 Favourites!

Tell it to the Frogs

This is the episode that made me realize I was in it for the long haul.

Season one, episode three: “Tell it to the Frogs”.

I loved the pilot episode, it was so different from anything I’d seen before. Episode two was pretty good, but I was really skeptical about the show and I couldn’t believe this many people could make so many bad decisions.

But episode three is when we meet the rest of the group. It’s when we really see the attempt these people are making not only to survive, but to still live somewhat normal lives.

I miss a lot of the original group, but at the same time, a lot of the original group drove me up the wall so it’s always funny to kind of go back and watch and see how different all the characters were then compared to now.

In “Tell it to the Frogs”, even though we only have just met some of these characters, we already get a sense about what they’re like right off the bat. We know if we’re going to love ’em or hate ’em and I think, if you hadn’t already realized it, that this was a show different from all others. Not just different from zombie shows, but all shows.

Watching the episode now is always funny to me in one particular spot. When Rick and the others first arrive at the camp and Carl sees his dad and goes running I think it’s adorable and Chandler Riggs and Andrew Lincoln did such a great job, but I can’t help but laugh.

I started watching The Walking Dead after it had already aired for a couple years so I had already heard about what a lil’ shit Carl was. The first time I saw him onscreen I was like, “Ah, so you’re the one. The one with the pudding.”

And yet here we are, season six is approaching and episode three of the whole series is one of my favourite episodes.

The Walking Dead Top 10 Fave Episodes: #10

The new season of The Walking Dead premiers this month! Yes, season six will officially air on October 11th. To celebrate I’m going to be doing a countdown of my top ten favourite Walking Dead episodes and then I’ll be reviewing the newest episode on the 11th.

Let’s kick things off with #10: “Clear”

ClearThe twelfth episode in season three sees Rick, Carl, and Michonne going on a run for guns and supplies. They return to Rick’s hometown to search and while there they meet up with Morgan who Rick hasn’t seen since he woke up from his coma. Only Morgan isn’t the same man he was back then. After his son’s death, Morgan hopped on the crazy train to nopeville and Rick takes it upon himself to bring him back to reality.

I love this episode. It takes place during Carl’s lil’ shit phase, but is also the episode where he and Michonne really start to build their friendship. I wasn’t a fan of Carl when I watched the series for the first time, but after rewatching the episodes Carl is now one of my favourite characters.

In “Clear” we get to see him and Michonne working together. They start to form that bond we all love seeing today and this is really when Michonne became one of the group.

The reintroduction of Morgan was also a great twist and one I didn’t see coming. In this episode Morgan really shows the tragic side of the apocalypse and what can happen when a person is left alone in the new world after losing everyone. I thought this really sort of showed us what could have happened to Rick had he been left alone after Lori’s death.

“Clear” shows us the start of a new alliance between Carl and Michonne and the reforging of an old one between Rick and Morgan. We learn so much about each of these characters in this episode and it really sets up a dynamic for these four for future episodes.
