The Walking Dead Episode Review: “East”

The Walking Dead

Season 6 | Episode 15 | Aired: March 27th, 2016

Okay, so my original plan was to post the reviews for the past three weeks first and then post this one. Those reviews are still coming, but this episode was sooooo intense I couldn’t not talk about it right away. Plus, I’m not working first thing tomorrow morning which means I can actually get this review out now (more on that in an upcoming review).

So much happened! And so much happened with so many characters I love!

Carol left Alexandria. It seems she just couldn’t take it anymore, she didn’t want to have to kill anymore so she left. Of course, as she was driving down the road she encountered some more Saviours who seemed to be on their way to Alexandria and ended up having to kill them.

Carol Breaking my Heart.gif

My heart breaks for Carol every time she has to kill someone now. Like, on one hand I get not wanting to kill people, but unfortunately I don’t think that’s really something you can avoid in the world they live in anymore.

But Carol wasn’t the only one to leave Alexandria last night. Morgan and Rick also left in search of Carol and Daryl, hell bent on revenge, left to go after Dwight and the others who killed Denise. In turn, Rosita, Glenn, and Michonne left to go after him.

Rosita

While no one died yet, the only one to return to Alexandria last night was Rick. Carol is still missing, Morgan is still searching for her, and Daryl, Glenn, Rosita, and Michonne are now hostages of Dwight and the others.

The episode ended with Dwight shooting Daryl and I think Yvette Nicole Brown said it best:

“Not like this, Lord, not like this.”

Daryl Dwight.jpg

She was also right in saying that Dwight is not a worthy enough character to take out Daryl Dixon. Daryl has survived everything that’s been thrown at him and while I’m sure Dwight is a real badass, he’s not the guy who would take out Daryl Dixon.

I loved this episode. I mean, I love every episode, but this one delved into the characters and their relationships and really showed how much things have changed since the show started.

The whole conversation between Glenn and Daryl in the forest really showed not only how much they’ve changed as individual characters, but how they really are all a family. I know we all know this already, but seeing these interactions is still a welcome thing and I think it really showed just how much Daryl and Glenn have both grown over the seasons.

Rick and Morgan’s whole dynamic is so different now than back in season one and it’s really interesting to watch. It was also interesting to hear Rick admit that he now believed Carol was right in killing Karen and David back at the Prison.

It’s kind of ironic that now Carol doesn’t want to kill anymore is when Rick admits that she was right to start killing in the first place.

And while I must admit that I was glad to hear him admit this it also made me really nervous for Carol’s future. Seriously, no one is safe on this show, but as soon as someone becomes the moral compass or people realize a certain character was right all along that character dies.

We don’t know where Carol is, we don’t know if we’ll ever see Morgan again (not gonna lie, he’s still driving me crazy so if he wants to return Carol to the group and then leave again that’s fine with me), Glenn, Michonne, and Rosita are all in danger, and Daryl’s been shot!

We also don’t know what’s going on with Maggie. She had Enid cut off her hair and then suddenly she was on the ground in pain. I’m with Yvette on this one too, it was the pickles cause I don’t want to think about the other thing.

Next week is the season six finale (so soon!) and there are so many questions that need answering and so many fates that need determining. Someone’s going to die. We know that. We’re meeting Negan so there’s no way the group is making it out unscathed.

I have many theories about who might be going with each theory hurting more than the last so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens and cry when it does.

But in the meantime I want to know what all of your theories are! Tell me down below what you think is going to happen next week on the hour and a half finale!

Season 6 | Episode 1 | Aired: October 11

The Walking Dead is back!!!! Oh my gosh that was a fantastic episode. Every time I think the cast and crew have done the best they possibly could with this show they go and outdo themselves.

This episode follows two storylines. The first, shown in black and white, takes place directly after the season five finale. It follows the characters as they struggle to accept what has happened and what needs to happen now. We see some conflict in these moments between Rick and Daryl and also between Rick and Morgan (though this does occur all throughout the episode in both timelines).

The second storyline takes place shortly after (maybe a few days, a week, I don’t think it’s really specified) and follows Rick’s group and the Alexandrians as they try to work together to stop the largest herd of walkers that’s ever existed on this show.

Herd

Yes, this episode was insane! There was a lot of butting heads, a lot of sneaking around, and a lot of zombies.

Rick was butting heads with basically everybody. He had a disagreement with Daryl over whether or not they should still recruit people, him and Morgan weren’t seeing eye to eye on much, and Rick and Carter went to head to head, or rather, gun to head.

Gun to Head

I’m not too crazy about Morgan right now. It’s weird cause I wasn’t a huge fan of him, but then he started growing on me, now he’s going against Rick with everything and I’m not a huge fan again. He’s like the anti-Rick and I know Rick is basically psycho, but the guy knows how to survive so who cares? Follow Rick! If you want to survive, follow Rick!

Someone else I’m not crazy about is Jessie. Didn’t like her last season, even less of a fan this season and we’re only one episode in. Her and Ron are both still processing what happened, which I get, but come on! Jessie was all for getting rid of Pete before and then Rick actually did it and now she’s pissed at him?

She’s done a complete 180 with Rick and actually got angry with him for telling Ron how it was when the teen snuck out of Alexandria and got attacked by walkers. Like, I’m sorry Jessie, but you weren’t too concerned about where your kids were last season when you and Rick were having eye sex with each other.

So I mentioned Carter a minute ago who was played by the amazing Ethan Embry. On Talking Dead Carter was described as kind of being what Rick may have been like had he ended up in Alexandria which I can definitely see. He wanted to find another way for them to do things which, obviously, there wasn’t.

At one point he threatens to kill Rick, but is overheard by Eugene. He then threatens to kill Eugene, but is interrupted by Rick who then proceeds to threaten Carter. He doesn’t kill Carter, but from that moment on Carter’s fate is basically sealed. And yes, Carter does die.

carter

The plan seems to be going perfectly which is how we all knew it would end horribly. As Carter is running through the forest he is grabbed by a walker which then bites him directly on the face. There is obviously no coming back from that so Rick stabs him in the neck.

Whether this is to put Carter out of his misery or just to make him shut up, it’s not totally clear. Either way, I think we’ve all seen now exactly what happens when you go against Rick Grimes.

A character who I’m liking a lot more now is Deanna. She’s accepted that Rick knows what he’s doing and is willing to follow his lead even if she doesn’t always like it. It’ll definitely be interesting to see if this continues or if she finally puts her foot down.

“First Time Again” actually had quite a few funny moments. When Eugene overhears Carter he’s basically the least slick spy there is and drops a glass and then, in his attempt to get away, crashes into a shelf. Also, when Heath says they shouldn’t be doing this (in regards to the plan) Glenn says, “I’m supposed to be delivering pizzas!” This was hilarious and I totally forgot that that’s what Glenn used to do.

There was also a moment between Michonne and Morgan that was hilarious where Morgan asked Michonne if she’d eaten one of his peanut butter protein bars back in Atlanta when Morgan was going crazy. She tells him she didn’t, we of course know that is a lie and she did eat it. I laughed so hard at this and it was amazing.

Michonne

Finally, and this isn’t really an actual funny moment in the show, just something I found hilarious, and that is that Judith has changed. Obviously they have to keep changing the babies because of legal reasons and because they need the baby to be a certain size, but they don’t even try to hide it on this show.

Like, there is no attempt made to try and get a baby that looks remotely similar to the previous ones. Here are a couple Judith’s over the years, please take note of the growing and receding hair as well as her apparent aging and then de-aging.

Judith

This episode definitely did a lot character exploring of both new and old characters.

We’re seeing an interesting dynamic between Glenn and Nicholas now. Personally, if Nicholas had his face eaten like Carter, I wouldn’t really care. He’s the reason Noah’s dead, he almost killed Glenn, he played a part in Aidan’s death and the deaths of the scouts who were going on runs before the group got there.

Basically, he’s got a lot of blood on his hands and at this point I wouldn’t care if it were his own. For some reason Glenn’s keeping him around though. They made a good point again on Talking Dead that Nicholas is really lucky it was Glenn and not someone else who he threatened. If he had pulled that with Rick then Nicholas would’ve been dead by now, no hesitation.

glenn

It’ll be interesting to see what happens. There’s a lot of rumors (like always) that this may be Glenn’s last season and I’m interested to see if this is true and, if it is, if it ends up being Nicholas’s fault. Dun dun dun.

The last characters I really want to talk about are Sasha and Abraham. I’m not a fan of Sasha and last season we really saw her struggling to deal with the loss of Bob and Tyreese. However, in the season finale she, Maggie, and Father Gabriel seemed to be starting to move forward. That continued this episode.

Now it seems like Abraham is the one going off the deep end. I was a little confused as to where this was coming from at first, but it seems like seeing what happened to Reg might have pushed him over the ledge.

Abe

We see him burying Reg and toasting him and then getting drunk next to the other man’s grave. I’m sure this will be explored in further episodes, but I’m really interested to hear what you guys think of this and why you think Abraham was so strongly affected by Reg’s death.

This episode was crazy and it looks like things are only going to get crazier.

At the end of the episode things were apparently going a little too well as someone decided to set off a horn that led the giant herd of walkers completely off track and heading straight for Alexandria. The Alexandria herd is pretty iconic in the comics and something I’ve been waiting, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it so soon so I can’t wait to see what happens!

I also can’t wait to see who was honking that horn! Was it Ron? We don’t see him hiding with Jessie and Sam. Was the it the Wolves? Was it someone unknown? We’ll just have to wait and see!

I’m so excited for next week, but I also have a feeling someone’s gonna die. Someone died already and we’re only on the season premier so clearly they aren’t holding back this season.

Let me know down below what you thought of the season premier and your predictions for next week!
