Dancing With the Stars Week Six: “A Night at the Movies” Recap

Dancing with the Stars S25 Cast

This week on DWTS the couples were off to the movies!

The scoring this week was out of 40 as the regular judges were joined by special guest judge, Shania Twain.

Each couple was assigned a film genre and had to come up with a dance that both incorporated the ballroom style they were given and that genre.

Each dance was interesting and incorporated the genre they were given in a unique and creative way.

Something else that was unique and creative (and quite controversial) was Shania Twain’s performance mid-way through the show. There is a lot of critique about her entire appearance during week six, but what I’m talking about is when she got up to perform her song “Soldier”.

Now, I’m no expert, but I work in a music store. And during her performance she sounded exactly (like scarily so) like the recording of that song that is on her new album. I’m not saying for sure whether or not she lip synced, but something about the whole performance was definitely off.

Moving on to nicer and less controversial performances, here are the scores from Monday night:

The competition is continuing to heat up the further into it we get and every dancer brought their A-game this week.

Unfortunately, there still had to be an elimination. Throughout the course of the night it was announced which couples were safe and which ones were in jeopardy.

Initially in jeopardy this week: Nick & Peta; Victoria & Val; Terrell & Cheryl.

The last couple called to be called safe was Victoria & Val, leaving Terrell & Cheryl and Nick & Peta in jeopardy.

The couple eliminated in week six was Nick and Peta.

Nick & Peta.jpg

Sad to see them go, though I think after all the weeks of them being in jeopardy and scraping by we knew it was going to come. Nick brought a lot of fun to the competition and we all know this won’t be the last we see of him. It’s safe to say he’ll be in the audience every week now to cheer on Vanessa.

Which dance was your favourite? Is the couple you’re rooting for still in the running?

I loved Frankie’s & Lindsey’s routines and thought they both did fantastic.

Sasha & Gleb’s routine I found to be a bit confusing. Usually my opinion on the dances goes as far as “that was good” or “I didn’t really like it”. Why? Because I have no dancing qualifications of my own. But I agree with the judges on this one, I kept waiting for the dance to actually start, but the whole thing was just them doing synchronized moves next to each other. Interesting, but pretty risky for a dance competition.

There was no elimination after Week Three which I’m sure was a relief to all the stars, but now they had to get ready for Week Four: “Most Memorable Year”

Barbara & Keo

Poor Keo just can’t catch a break can he?

The rest of the couples weren’t done yet though and returned Tuesday night to dance their second dances and face a second elimination.

Which couple are you rooting for? What did you think of Monday night’s elimination?

However, it’s only week one and who knows what will happen in the coming weeks.

Dancing with the Stars is airing Monday AND Tuesday next week, with two eliminations occurring. That’s right, going from 13 couples to 11 in week two!

I was pleasantly surprised by some of the dances performed on Monday night and can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.

Personally I’m rooting for Lindsey & Mark and Frankie & Witney.

Dancing With The Stars Season 21 Finals: Night 2 Recap!

Dancing With the Stars S21

What an AMAZING night! I can’t believe season 21 is over already, these past several weeks have flown by!

There were some fantastic performances and dances by past contestants as well as a look back on different moments that happened during the competition before we finally got to see the couples perform one final dance: The Fusion Dance.

The show opened in The Grove with a dance number performed by the pros and most of the past contestants from this season.

Chaka Khan returned and sang one of her hit songs, “I’m Every Woman” and Andy Grammer was also back to sing his hit single “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)”.

Kim and Tony finally got to perform their I Dream of Jeanie number that they didn’t get to do in the competition after Kim was forced to withdraw due to health reasons. Paula Deen and Louis also got to perform one of their numbers again and they chose their dance inspired by Gilligan’s Island.

Personally, I was just excited to get to hear the Gilligan’s Island theme song again.

Carlos danced his Magic Mike number again with several of the male pros and let me tell you, they set The Grove on fire!

Victor Espinoza returned with Karina Smirnoff to perform his wonderful number from Week Two, a Jive to “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens. The hat was back, the hip shaking was back, and oh my goodness I forgot how adorable he is.

Gary Busey and Anna danced a Cha-Cha-Cha to “Dancing in the Street” which was their number in Week One. Also performing again tonight was Hayes and Emma who danced their Contemporary number to “Stitches” which they originally danced during Week Four.

Shortly after that Alexa and Mark took to the dance floor to recreate their Jazz number from Week Three which was inspired by the Breaking Bad theme. I loved getting to see this again.

There were many look backs on this season and so many of these moments got me emotional again. There was also a hilarious blooper reel which is something I always look forward to during the season finales!

Elle King came on and performed her hit number, “Ex’s and Oh’s” while several of the pros performed on the dance floor.

All three finalists got to perform one of their favourite numbers from the season again, starting with Nick and Sharna who chose their Viennese Waltz from Week Three to the theme song from Downton Abbey. It was just as beautiful as the first time they did it.

Alek and Lindsay were next and chose their Jazz number from Week Two to the song “Don’t Stop Believing”. The dance was great and the song always puts me in a good mood so I really enjoyed watching this one again.

Finally, it was Bindi and Derek’s turn and they chose their Viennese Waltz from Week Nine to the song “Roses and Violets”. This number was beautiful and I loved watching it again. It was even more beautiful as the song was performed live by Mark Ballas and BC Jean.

Finally it was time for the Fusion Dances. Here are those scores:

Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess
Dances: Salsa and Tango
Song: “Turn up the Music” – Chris Brown
Score: 30
*Second Place*

Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold
Dance: Rumba and Tango
Song: “A Sky Full of Stars” – Coldplay
Score: 27
*Third Place*

Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough
Dance: Argentine Tango and Cha-Cha-Cha
Song: “All The Way” – Timeflies
Score: 30
*Winner!*

All three couples did an amazing job this season, but there can be only one winner.

Alek and Lindsay placed third and then it was down to Nick & Sharna and Bindi & Derek. Both these couples have had perfect scores for the past two nights and have had some truly fantastic dances this season, so who had the votes?

After a suspenseful wait it was announced that Bindi and Derek had won! Wooooooooo!

Bindi and Derek

Congratulations Bindi and Derek! Anyone who follows me on Twitter or has been reading these recaps knows that I was rooting for Team Crikey from the start and I am so happy they won!

They did a phenomenal job from Week One and they deserved this so much. I am so proud of them and I am so excited to see where life takes Bindi next and for Season 22.

What did you think of the season finale of DWTS? Who were you rooting for?

Dancing With The Stars Week Eleven Recap: Finals Night One!

Dancing With the Stars S21

It’s finally (ha, see what I did there?) here! The Finals! I can’t believe eleven weeks have passed already and that we’re down to the final four couples (final three after tonight).

Last night the couples had two dances to perform: The Judge’s Choice and The Freestyle.

It was a crazy, amazing, emotional night with some amazing performances from Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande, and Who Is Fancy, as well as wonderful dances by the pros and the couples!

Here are the scores for the first night of finals:

Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson
Dance: Foxtrot
Song: “The Hills” – The Weeknd
Score: 30
Judge: Bruno
*Perfect Score*
*Perfect Night*
*Eliminated*

Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold

Score: 27
Judge: Carrie Ann

Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess

*Perfect Night*

Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough

Song: “Dr. Bones” – Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Score: 30

*Perfect Score*
*Perfect Night*

But like I said before, it wasn’t just the Judge’s Choice dances they had to perform. Each couple also had their Freestyle which is really the dance that will make or break the competition.

Here are those scores:

Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson
Dance: Freestyle
Song: “WTF (Where They From)” – Missy Elliott feat. Pharrell Williams
Score: 30
*Perfect Score*
*Perfect Night*

Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold
Dance: Freestyle
Song: “Marchin On” – OneRepublic
Score: 30
*Perfect Score*

Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess
Dance: Freestyle
Song: “Larger Than Life” – Backstreet Boys
Score: 30
*Perfect Score*
*Perfect Night*

Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough
Dance: Freestyle
Song: “Footprints in the Sand” – Leona Lewis
Score: 30
*Perfect Score*
*Perfect Night*

Three of the couples had a perfect night with scores of 60! Alek and Lindsay were close behind with a score of 57!

Once again Bindi and Derek killed it and their Freestyle absolutely blew me away. I was in tears the whole time and I wasn’t the only one. There wasn’t a dry eye in that audience and even Bindi broke down at the end when a picture of her and her dad appeared, something she’d had no idea was going to happen.

Unfortunately, one couple did need to go home. After Bindi & Derek and Alek & Lindsay were called safe, it was down to Carlos & Witney and Nick & Sharna. In the end, Carlos & Witney were eliminated and Nick & Sharna will be joining the other two in the finals.

There is only one night of competition left and it’s tonight! That’s right, Dancing With The Stars concludes tonight with more amazing dances and someone will be going home with the Mirrorball Trophy!

Who do you think it will be?

There was a lot of improvement amongst the couples tonight, particularly with Kim and Tony. Bruno even went so far as to describe Kim’s comeback as “the most unexpected comeback since Lazarus”.

Meanwhile, Andy Grammer wins the award for best response ever when asked what went wrong during his dance by Carrie Ann. Andy’s response? “Dancing is hard!” Yes Andy, yes it is. That’s why I don’t do it, I just sit on my couch and recap all of you dancing.

Of course, this is DWTS which means someone has to go home. This week there were two couples in jeopardy: Chaka and Keo, and Gary and Anna.

This season on Dancing With the Stars, Chaka and Keo were the first couple to go home.

What did you guys think of Week Two? Who are you rooting for?

Make sure to watch again tomorrow to see the couples dancing to songs celebrating the pro’s hometowns!
