Dancing With The Stars Season 21 Finals: Night 2 Recap!

Dancing With the Stars S21

What an AMAZING night! I can’t believe season 21 is over already, these past several weeks have flown by!

There were some fantastic performances and dances by past contestants as well as a look back on different moments that happened during the competition before we finally got to see the couples perform one final dance: The Fusion Dance.

The show opened in The Grove with a dance number performed by the pros and most of the past contestants from this season.

Chaka Khan returned and sang one of her hit songs, “I’m Every Woman” and Andy Grammer was also back to sing his hit single “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)”.

Kim and Tony finally got to perform their I Dream of Jeanie number that they didn’t get to do in the competition after Kim was forced to withdraw due to health reasons. Paula Deen and Louis also got to perform one of their numbers again and they chose their dance inspired by Gilligan’s Island.

Personally, I was just excited to get to hear the Gilligan’s Island theme song again.

Carlos danced his Magic Mike number again with several of the male pros and let me tell you, they set The Grove on fire!

Victor Espinoza returned with Karina Smirnoff to perform his wonderful number from Week Two, a Jive to “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens. The hat was back, the hip shaking was back, and oh my goodness I forgot how adorable he is.

Gary Busey and Anna danced a Cha-Cha-Cha to “Dancing in the Street” which was their number in Week One. Also performing again tonight was Hayes and Emma who danced their Contemporary number to “Stitches” which they originally danced during Week Four.

Shortly after that Alexa and Mark took to the dance floor to recreate their Jazz number from Week Three which was inspired by the Breaking Bad theme. I loved getting to see this again.

There were many look backs on this season and so many of these moments got me emotional again. There was also a hilarious blooper reel which is something I always look forward to during the season finales!

Elle King came on and performed her hit number, “Ex’s and Oh’s” while several of the pros performed on the dance floor.

All three finalists got to perform one of their favourite numbers from the season again, starting with Nick and Sharna who chose their Viennese Waltz from Week Three to the theme song from Downton Abbey. It was just as beautiful as the first time they did it.

Alek and Lindsay were next and chose their Jazz number from Week Two to the song “Don’t Stop Believing”. The dance was great and the song always puts me in a good mood so I really enjoyed watching this one again.

Finally, it was Bindi and Derek’s turn and they chose their Viennese Waltz from Week Nine to the song “Roses and Violets”. This number was beautiful and I loved watching it again. It was even more beautiful as the song was performed live by Mark Ballas and BC Jean.

Finally it was time for the Fusion Dances. Here are those scores:

Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess
Dances: Salsa and Tango
Song: “Turn up the Music” – Chris Brown
Score: 30
*Second Place*

AlekĀ Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold
Dance: Rumba and Tango
Song: “A Sky Full of Stars” – Coldplay
Score: 27
*Third Place*

Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough
Dance: Argentine Tango and Cha-Cha-Cha
Song: “All The Way” – Timeflies
Score: 30
*Winner!*

All three couples did an amazing job this season, but there can be only one winner.

Alek and Lindsay placed third and then it was down to Nick & Sharna and Bindi & Derek. Both these couples have had perfect scores for the past two nights and have had some truly fantastic dances this season, so who had the votes?

After a suspenseful wait it was announced that Bindi and Derek had won! Wooooooooo!

Bindi and Derek

Congratulations Bindi and Derek! Anyone who follows me on Twitter or has been reading these recaps knows that I was rooting for Team Crikey from the start and I am so happy they won!

They did a phenomenal job from Week One and they deserved this so much. I am so proud of them and I am so excited to see where life takes Bindi next and for Season 22.

What did you think of the season finale of DWTS? Who were you rooting for?

Dancing With the Stars Finale Results Recap

Dancing With the Stars

Here we go! The finale! The competition this season was tough and tonight was the night to see if all their hard work paid off. One of the remaining three couples was to be awarded the Mirror Ball Trophy!

Before we move right into the recap of tonight, here’s a reminder of how things stood last night.

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker
Score: 80

Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkobskiy
Score: 80

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess
Score: 72

The finale tonight started off with an amazing dance featuring all the stars and pros from this season before they then moved onto a recap of last night.

Last night, on the Dancing With the Stars Twitter, they asked which freestyle routine viewers wanted to see again. The people voted and we got to see an encore presentation of Riker and Allison’s amazing freestyle (which you can watch below).

Riker and Allison weren’t done yet though because the next dance we saw was a shortened version of their Jive from Week One.

Now, this night isn’t just about the finalists. We also get to see performances from many of the stars from this season and past seasons as well as a few special guests. The first of these was Redfoo singing his song “Juicy Wiggle” which is ridiculously catchy.

One of the comments made tonight was that Week One seems so long ago and I definitely have to agree. I can’t believe how fast this season has gone by! We got to have another look back at the past ten weeks and it’s crazy to see all the stuff that happened in those weeks.

The next performance we saw was from Charlotte and Keo who danced to “California Gurls” and I have to say, I was really loving the fact that they had someone dressed in a shark costume. That shark has become obnoxiously famous and I love it.

After that we got to see a dance from Alfonso Ribeiro and Sadie Robertson, last season’s champion and second place winner. It was also announced that Alfonso would be taking over for Tom as host of America’s Funniest Home Videos this fall!

Suzanne and Tony were back to perform their Week Three Samba. The dance was great, but I’m not going to lie, I would have loved to see their Three’s Company number again if only because of all the nostalgia it brings.

Viewers then got to watch a very strange compilation of moments that, despite being picked up by the camera, weren’t picked up by the microphones, so they had several members of the DWTS team try to figure out what they were saying in a “Bad Lip-Reading” compilation. It’s safe to say this was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen on this show.

However, the next thing we saw was not strange at all, but actually pretty fantastic. An encore performance from Robert and Kym of their Week One. I have to ask, what is going on with them? Is there anything or are they really close friends?

Like I said earlier, this night isn’t just about the finalists and we finally got to see a performance from one of those special guests I was talking about earlier. Jason Derulo performed his hit single, “Want to Want Me”, while several of the pros danced on stage.

Noah and Sharna were next, accompanied by Derek and Amy, performed a beautiful Argentine Tango before we then got to see Chris and Whitney doing their Footloose dance from Week One. A lot of week one dances coming back tonight.

One of the things I love about them having these separate results shows is that we get to look back on the things that happened so far in the competition. This includes looking back on all the crazy weeks that the couples had to dance to. From team dances to Disney night to spring break, the stuff these dancers have to do is crazy!

After this wonderful look back, we got to see what was one of my favourite dances of the competition. Nastia, Derek, and Sasha performed a Charleston, accompanied by the amazing Andy Grammer. They first performed this number during the first week Derek was hurt and couldn’t dance with Nastia and I absolutely loved it so I was so excited to see them doing it again.

Lots of encore performances tonight! Val and Rumer were the next couple to dance to one of their previous dances, in this case it was their Salsa from Week Three and they did just as amazing this time as they did then.

Also doing just as amazing as they did the first time were Willow and Mark who were shockingly eliminated in Week Seven. I definitely thought they would be in the finals this season, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. However, they did come back and perform their absolutely stunning Alice in Wonderland Foxtrot from Disney Week!

I really enjoy that the couples come back and perform these amazing dances again. I also really enjoy seeing the behind the scenes footage from the show which is what we saw next. The DWTS bloopers were absolutely hilarious. I never realized just how much stuff went wrong behind the scenes and before the show!

The next special guest to perform was Fifth Harmony with their single “Worth It”, accompanied by several of the female pros. All the girls in this number did a phenomenal job, both in the dance and the song.

We’re now half way through the finale, but nowhere close to being done! The female pros had their turn, now it was the guy’s turn and I swear these guys will take any opportunity to take their shirts off.

Sia was the next special guest to take the floor performing “Elastic Heart” as Derek and Julianne (and Joey and Emma, two amazing child dancers) performed an absolutely beautiful number. I actually had to rewind this a few times because I wasn’t sure where to look. Derek and Julianne did amazing, but those kids! Oh my gosh!

It’s a night to look back and this time we got to take another look at the heartbreaking and touching moments that happened over the course of the season. It has definitely been an emotional season.

Patti and Artem were back to perform their Salsa from Week Two to the song “In Da Club” by 50 Cent. This isn’t the last of Patti in the finale though as later in the show she returned to perform her song, “Two Steps Away”

And now, it’s finally that time. The twenty-four hour fusion challenge. What is the twenty-four hour fusion style? Good question. Last night the couples were assigned a new dance which was a ‘fusion’ of two dances.

Watching the videos for the couples was actually really emotional as it was their last rehearsal together and the viewers have seen how much each of the stars has grown over these past ten weeks.

The fusion dances will be judged out of 40 like all the previous dances and their scores from tonight will be added to their scores from last night for an overall total

Here are the scores for the fusion dances:

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess
Dance: Cha Cha/Argentine Tango
Song: “Surrender” – Cash Cash feat. Julia Michaels
Score: 36
Total: 108

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker
Dance: Salsa/Quickstep
Song: “Classic” – MKTO
Score: 40
Total: 120
*Perfect Night*
*Perfect Finale*

Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkobskiy
Dance: Foxtrot/Paso Doble
Song: “Big Jet Plane” – Angus and Julia Stone
Score: 40
Total: 120
*Perfect Night*
*Perfect Finale*

And there we have it, the final dances of season 20! The only thing left was to tally up the votes for the third, second, and first place couples in this competition! All of these couples worked so hard this season and I really think at this point it was anyone’s game. Unfortunately though, there can only be one winner.

But! Before we get to the results, there was one more performance to be had. Patti LaBelle returned to sing her song, “Two Steps Away”. She truly is a woman of many talents.

Now, onto the results. Riker and Allison, Noah and Sharna, Rumer and Val. Only one of them can win.

In third place, Noah and Sharna. They did such an amazing job this season and I am so glad they made it to the finals.

Noah and Sharna

However, it’s now down to two. Riker and Allison, and Rumer and Val. Who will win? This is tough. I really liked both of them and I literally had no clue who would win.

Riker and Allison

The winners for this season of Dancing With the Stars were Rumer and Val!

Rumer and Val

Honestly, I was voting for Riker and Allison, but I’m still so happy with this outcome. Rumer and Val worked so hard and did such an amazing job and they truly deserved it.

I’m also really proud of Riker and Allison for making it all the way to the finals. It’s so amazing and I’m really happy for all three couples for making it as far as they did.

And that’s it! Season twenty is over which means my recaps are done for now. Did you enjoy them? Yes? No? Maybe?

Can’t wait for next season!

Dancing With the Stars Semi-Finals Results

Dancing With the Stars

Here we go! The last results show before the finals!

To recap, here are the final scores from last night:

Rumer and Val
Score: 68

Noah and Sharna
Score: 66

Riker and Allison
Score: 70

Nastia and Derek
Score: 70

The show started off looking back at Noah and Sharna’s journey so far, including Noah’s proposal last night. Congratulations again to the happy couple! It was announced then that Noah and Sharna were in jeopardy.

After that viewers got to see Whitney, Artem, Jenna, Lindsay, Alan, and others perform a dance that will be in the Almay Simply American Tour, raising money for families in the US military. It was quite a spectacular performance and everyone did an amazing job!

Next, they moved on Riker and Allison and took another look at their experience in the semi-finals. It was announced that Riker and Allison were safe and I will admit that I freaked out. I am so excited and so happy and I can’t wait to see them dance next week!

We then got to see something pretty amazing. A Dance Through the Ages. Emma and Sasha were challenged to show 100 years of dance in two minutes and they succeeded. The video was incredible and it was so funny to see the different dance styles and outfits that went with each decade. Comparing the 1900’s to now, it was definitely interesting to see.

Something that was emotional and moving to see was the recap of Nastia and Derek’s journey in the semi-finals. It was just as touching to watch Len dance with Nastia in the package as it was to watch live last night. Nastia and Derek were in jeopardy.

An “electrifying” performance took place shortly after this announcement featuring the woman of Dancing With the Stars. Now, I’m not a professional and, unless we see their preparation, we don’t know how the dance is supposed to look. But I think we can guess. This performance was spectacular, all of the women on the show did a phenomenal job. But some of them seemed a little out of time at some points? Was it just me? They just seemed to sometimes be a little out of sync with each other, but even at those times, they always got right back into the dance and it went on amazingly.

A video was shown of the four pros talking about each of the stars and I think they, and everyone watching, can agree on one thing: this is some of the toughest competition this show has ever seen. Everyone is so good!

A performance from Flo Rida followed after during which he sung his song, “G.D.F.R” while some of the ladies of Dancing With the Stars performed on stage.

We finally reached the fourth couple: Rumer and Val. After taking a look back at their performance last night, we learned that Rumer and Val were in jeopardy.

So now, going into the elimination, here are the results:

Noah and Sharna
Status: In Jeopardy

Riker and Allison
Status: Safe

Nastia and Derek
Status: In Jeopardy

Rumer and Val
Status: In Jeopardy

Something I love about getting closer and closer to the finals is that we get to look back on all the things that helped the couples get to where they are now. This included the training log of each of the couples, looking back at their successes and their struggles.

From Derek’s injury to Noah’s development as a dancer, from Riker and Allison’s time constraints to Rumer’s injury, it was really cool to see how far they’ve all come since that first week.

What came after the training log was something I was very excited for. A performance of “Gotta Be Me” by Riker’s brother, Ross, and the cast from Teen Beach Movie 2. I loved this performance! I’ll admit that as a big fan of R5 and everything they do I might be a little biased, but I thought this performance was absolutely great and got me really excited for Teen Beach Movie 2.

Now comes the moment that everyone was waiting for, but also dreading. The moment where we would find out which couples would be joining Riker and Allison in the finals. Rumer and Val, Noah and Sharna, and Nastia and Derek were all in jeopardy and, as much as we wish it wasn’t so, one of these couples had to go home.

Unfortunately, the couple to go home was Nastia and Derek. Honestly, no matter which way these results went, I think it’s safe to say that it would have been a shock and a disappointment. Nastia and Derek did amazing throughout this whole competition and they truly deserved to get as far as they did and to go farther.

Nastia and Derek

Noah and Sharna, Rumer and Val were safe and will be going to the finals with Riker and Allison.

What did you think of the results? Who do you think will win the finals?

Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkobskiy
Score: 117
Status: Safe

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker
Score: 115
Status: In Jeopardy

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess
Score: 101
Status: Safe

Chris Soules and Whitney Carson
Score: 95
Status: In Jeopardy; Eliminated

Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson
Score: 93
Status: Eliminated

The show kicked off with an encore performance of Rumer, Val, and Artem’s Paso Doble which was just as amazing as it was last night.

Throughout the show they gave a little recap of each couple’s journey so far as well as some footage that hadn’t been seen up until this point. It’s truly amazing to see how far some of the stars have come. However, I don’t think any level of improvement could have settled their nerves as the knowledge of Willow and Mark’s shocking elimination was still so fresh in everyone’s minds.

The first couples we saw were Rumer and Val, who were declared safe (I don’t think anyone was surprised about that after their perfect night!) and Chris and Whitney who were revealed to be in jeopardy.

The night was also chalk full of special guests. First up was Carly Rae Jepsen singing her hit single “I Really Like You”. After her performance we then moved on to looking at Noah & Sharna and Robert & Kym.

Out of these two couples it was revealed that one had the lowest score of all and was eliminated right then and there. The couple that was eliminated was Robert and Kym. Noah and Sharna will be moving on to the semi-finals with Rumer and Val.

Robert and Kum

Next up was a special dance performance by Travis Wall and Shaping Sound featuring Jenna and Allison. And I have to say it was a pretty spectacular performance.

The show then moved on to look back at Nastia, Derek, and Sasha’s performance as well as Riker and Allison’s before they then told the couples who would be moving on to the semi-finals and who was in jeopardy. Nastia and Derek were safe and would be dancing next week, but unfortunately Riker and Allison were in jeopardy (come on people, vote!).

After that shocking revelation, Josh Groban performed a stunning rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” with an equally stunning dance number featuring Maddie Ziegler. Seriously, an absolutely beautiful performance from both.

The night was not over yet though. Chris & Whitney and Riker & Allison were both in jeopardy. One couple would be moving forward, one would not. The couple eliminated was Chris and Whitney while Riker and Allison will be dancing in the semi-finals.

Chris and Whitnney

The competition is tougher than ever now. Rumer and Val, Riker and Allison, Noah and Sharna, and Nastia and Derek will be dancing in the semi-finals next week and all will be vying for a place in the finals.

How do you think they’ll do? Which couple are you rooting for?
