Criminal Minds Episode Review: “Outlaw”

Criminal Minds

Season 11 | Episode 4 | Aired: October 21, 2015

“Outlaw” was an interesting one because it actually featured the team reopening an old case (not one we had seen in a previous episode) that they hadn’t solved.

At first they wondered if perhaps the killers were just copycats, but they quickly realized that wasn’t the case and it was the same killers from before as the details were just too accurate. The two men were actually caught after their partnership started to dissolve because one of the men left a witness. Why did he leave a witness? He allowed a man and his son to live after he himself discovered he had a five year old son.

I really liked this episode. One of the things I’ve always liked about Criminal Minds is that viewers typically know who the unsub is or at least what he or she looks like before the team does. This episode was no different, but it still felt like a mystery somehow. I don’t really know how to describe it (I’m such a great writer, aren’t I?), but it really felt like we were guessing who the unsub was and what was going on even though we already had answers to both those questions.

I actually found the end of this episode to be pretty sad. While I didn’t feel bad for either unsub (they murdered a lot of people), I guess I sort of felt… pity? Once again we’re at a point where I don’t know how to describe it.

He found out he had a son, but the boy’s mother wouldn’t allow him to see the boy (can’t really blame him, he went to jail for murder and he was a drug addict for ages). He ends up taking them hostage, but the BAU finds them before they can get too far.

The unsub knows he’s going back to jail for all the people he’s killed and he knows he’ll never get to know his son so he decides to go down in a hail of bullets rather than turn himself in. I’ve seen this happen in movies and TV shows before and it gets me every time, whether the character is a protagonist or an antagonist.

I’m finding this episode really hard to describe. I don’t know why, it was a great episode! It was creepy and disturbing with just that little bit of sympathy for the unsubs. All in all a great episode.

Next week looks like it’s going to be a great one too! It looks exceptionally creepy (and kind of gross) and I’ve also read that we’ll be seeing Tara struggle to balance her work life with her personal life, something we know all the BAU members have had to deal with.

What did you think of “Outlaw”? Can you describe it better than I could? Probably! Let me know what you thought down below!

Supernatural Episode Review: “Form and Void”

Season 11 | Episode 2 | Aired: October 14, 2015

This episode was so great! Crowley returned, Sam is cured, Dean discovered the Mark of Cain on Amara, and we learned more of what was going on with the guys who took Cas.

Alright, let’s start with Sam because somehow that’s probably the easiest plotline that happened in this episode. We all know that last week Sam became infected with the strange Darkness cloud that made people go rabid. Well this week the mystery only continued to grow.

It seems there isn’t a specific timeline that people change. Some people turn rabid in an hour some take a day and there doesn’t seem to be any reason for it. However, we do know one thing for sure, fire kills it. Sam was close to turning rabid when (for some reason) he decided to hold a flame up to the black veins on his neck and poof! They were completely gone! He was cured!

Sam Fire

No clue why this is yet, but hey, at least Sam isn’t dying. I was really thankful for this because Sam had spoken to a Reaper who said there’d be no coming back this time. Everyone who watches Supernatural knows that a Winchester death isn’t a forever death, but when the Reaper said that it became a very real possibility and I definitely don’t want either of the Winchester boys to die. It always results in the other one doing something incredibly stupid to get the dead one back.

Dean isn’t dying either because he’s protected by The Darkness now. Though it’s come into question who The Darkness is. Is it the woman Dean saw in the premier or is Amara? Last week Dean discovered that Amara has the Mark of Cain and eats souls. No, that wasn’t a typo, she eats souls.

How can something so cute be so… I don’t even know how to describe this. I think the biggest surprise of this though was actually the fact that the baby then aged several years. She now looks about six or seven and she just wandering out of the house so now Dean has no clue where the soul eating child is.

Supernatural --

But Crowley does. Yes, Crowley came back as “Father Crowley” and became quite fascinated with the child. I mean, who can blame him? He’s the King of Hell, she’s a baby dementor. He ends up luring her to his side by kidnapping a family and offering up their souls to her. I’m definitely interested to see what she’ll look like now she’s had more souls to eat.

I’m also interested to see what will happen with Cas. He was reunited with the Winchester boys at the end of the episode as he begged for help after being held hostage by two angels who wanted information on Metatron. We all know Cas doesn’t know where Metatron is, but that didn’t matter to these angels who, it turns out, were being led by Hannah.

It didn’t matter in the end though cause they all died. They tied Cas up and one of the other angels attacked Hannah. This of course made Cas angry and he broke out of his bonds to kill the angels, but not before Hannah died too. Well, so much for Erica Carroll coming back.

Castiel Sad

I’m still at a point where I just want to wrap Cas in a hug and never let him go and just protect him from everything bad in the world. He looked so sad! Why can’t they ever have nice things on this show? Why? Give the Winchesters and Cas some peace for once!

There’s a new episode on tonight and it looks fantastic! I’m so excited to see what happens next and I promise my review will not take as long to upload!

Let me know what you thought of “Form and Void” and make sure you watch the new episode tonight!

Season 11 | Episode 1 | Aired: October 7, 2015

Supernatural is back!!!!

Season eleven picks up exactly where season ten left off with Sam and Dean surrounded by the darkness. We see what happens to them and we all see the aftermath of the confrontation between Cas and Crowley.

First of all, everyone survived! Second of all, about thirty seconds into the episode I was already going, “WTF?!” and then I basically just stayed like that through the entire hour.

So much happened! Let’s see, The Darkness is apparently a woman (is that symbolic to what the fandom becomes every time a female joins the show?) and she and Dean now protect each other. Yup, that happened.

Dean Darkness

The Darkness cloud spread out everywhere and infected a bunch of people who then went rabid and they were all converging on this hospital. It isn’t apparent until the end episode why this is though. When the cop who had worked with Sam and Dean this episode is looking after the baby she took in from a guy who got infected, it is revealed that the baby… now has the Mark of Cain!

Are you kidding me?!

I mean sure, why not? I guess having it on Dean last season wasn’t torture enough they decided to stick it on a baby!

Um, let’s see what else, oh yeah, Sam’s infected with The Darkness. Yeah, at the end of the episode we see the creepy black vein things moving up his neck and you know what? He didn’t tell Dean. Surprise, surprise, the boys suck at communication.

Neither of them are fine, but neither of them are talking about it. I want to reach into the TV and slap them both upside the head.

Alright, moving on. I felt so bad for Cas! I just want to wrap him up and give him a hug! After the colossal mess with Metatron last season, Cas isn’t doing so great. Things got even worse when he asked the other angels for help and when two showed up, rather than take him to heaven, they tied him up and blind folded him. Needless to say, Cas isn’t having a good time.

Crowley, however, was having a great time.  His old body couldn’t move for a while thanks to Rowena  (he got it back in the end) so he left and infected the body of some poor woman and then proceeded to have an orgy with the woman’s husband and friends. I feel like this should’ve surprised me more than it did, but it’s Supernatural and it’s Crowley.

Right near the end of the episode something very interesting is said. Apparently when The Darkness was released someone heard screaming coming from inside The Cage and they think it may have been Michael or Lucifer.

Yes, this is Crowley.

This is giving a lot of people hope and stirring up the rumours from earlier this year that Lucifer may be returning.

And, uh, you know, maybe they’ll finally rescue Adam? Remember him? The other Winchester brother? Maybe it was him screaming cause he’s tired of being stuck in The Cage.

So much craziness happened last night and I can only imagine that it’s going to continue!

Next week’s episode looks amazing, but before we get there something else exciting is happening! The Supernatural convention in Toronto is this weekend!

Yes! Let me know if any of you are going cause that would be awesome!

Criminal Minds Season Eleven Premier: “The Job”

Criminal Minds

Season 11 | Episode 1 | Aired September 30, 2015

Run: September 22nd, 2005-Present
Created by: Jeff David
Genre: Police Procedural, Crime Drama, Action, Thriller
Starring: Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Thomas Gibson, Aisha Tyler

Woooo! Criminal Minds is back!

I missed this show. I missed the Reid-isms, the Garcia/Morgan flirting, the badassness that is JJ, and, of course, the ever present and amazing Hotch and Rossi.

Season eleven was holding nothing back and had what was quite literally an explosive start.

In this episode, the team uncovers an underground group of hit men after discovering that their unsub is a killer for hire. Only, he’s not going after targets, he’s going after former clients. Anyone and everyone who has ever paid him to kill someone is now a target themself for this hit man out for revenge.

At the same time, Hotch is busy looking for a new member to add to the team as they are a little short staffed after Kate Callaghan’s departure last season and with JJ being on maternity leave.

Before I get too into reviewing the episode and while we’re on the topic of JJ, I would like to congratulate AJ Cook and her husband on their baby boy, Phoenix Sky, who was born in July and made his first TV appearance in tonight’s episode.

Yes, JJ appears for a brief cameo – the only time we’ll see her I believe for the next five episodes – and we see her with her new baby who, according to sources on the Internet, is named Michael and is played by none other than Phoenix himself.

JJs new baby

I’m assuming we’ll probably be seeing more of this boy as AJ’s other real life son, Mekhai, also plays her onscreen son, Henry.

Alright, moving on to the episode! Criminal Minds has had a lot of terrifying criminals over it’s past ten seasons and I think this one can probably be considered one of the most terrifying. An underground ring of hit men. How scary is that?!

I think the unsubs that carry on throughout the whole season are often the scariest, though it has been eleven seasons and I don’t remember every single unsub so we’ll really just have to see how this goes.

One of biggest parts of this episode was that the BAU discovered there was a mole amongst them. This time it turned out to be a member of the local police force, but I read online that a mole in the department may actually be something they battle over the course of the season.

This is, of course, just speculation about something I saw online which means it’s probably wrong, but that would definitely add a twist to things.

Reid was quite an active member this episode and we got our first Reid rant less than ten minutes into the episode which was wonderful. He also showed off his genius super powers and helped save a guy’s life.

This is where the literal explosion comes in to the season premier as Reid, Morgan, and Rossi helped save a man who had a grenade glued to his hands.

They managed to detach it, but the grenade exploded anyway. All the team and the victim made it out thanks to Rossi’s fantastic throwing arm.

Rossi Grenade

I actually read and heard quite a bit that Reid is going to have a major storyline this season so I’m definitely looking forward to that and if the rest of the season is anything like this episode then I will be very happy.

I’m also looking forward to seeing what their plans are for Tara Lewis (Tyler) who we met in this premier and who is currently filling the space left by Kate and JJ. She is only listed as a recurring character though so I’m not sure if she’ll be leaving when JJ comes back or what’s going to happen.

So far she seems pretty badass and Garcia clearly likes her so we shall see. I’m always kind of torn when they bring someone new in to fill that space. Ever since Prentiss left it’s like a constant rotating door of new female agents, but they never last very long.

I really liked Blake and wish she had stayed, but I also really liked Kate (from what I understand that’s an unpopular opinion). I’m hoping they’ll either find someone to fill that roll for at least more than one season or just forget that space altogether and leave the team at six members.

On top of being one of the scariest unsubs I think they’ve had on this show, this episode also wins the award for one of the most disgusting scenes I’ve ever seen. And I watch The Walking Dead.

Normally I’m one of those people who isn’t really affected by the gross stuff in TV shows. It’s kind of funny because if it’s blood and gore in a film it grosses me out, but on TV? No issue. I watch zombie shows, medical shows, and crime shows without a problem.

But when that guy started ripping the stitches out of his mouth at the end of the episode… Actual shivers and cringing and I had to look away. Why was that necessary?! Come on! It was so beyond gross and it was like nails on a chalkboard. I’m cringing just thinking about it.

Now, Reid wasn’t the only major player in this episode. Of course, every character had a role in this one, but Morgan also had a significant part to play.

Garcia and Morgan flirting

He went to head to head with the unsub himself and it was Morgan who promised the unsub that they were going to find the rest of the men he worked with. It was also Morgan who the unsub told about the next victims, “The Dirty Dozen”.

At this point nobody watching has any idea who “The Dirty Dozen” are and we probably won’t find out for a while. In the meantime though, there are plenty of other unsubs causing chaos, including the one next week.

I only saw about eleven seconds of the preview for next week, but even just from that it looks amazing. I am so excited Criminal Minds is back and I am so excited to be reviewing this season!

Once I find a full preview of next week’s episode I’ll post it here!

October Announcements

Alright, so I am making this post because October is going to be a crazy busy month for me and I am so excited!

First, I will be going to Torcon which is the Supernatural convention in Toronto! I will be blogging about my weekend on this blog and I am incredibly excited about this. I love Supernatural, I’ve gone to the convention for the past couple years, but only for one day so this will be my first time going for the whole weekend.

If you or anyone you know is going, let me know because that would be amazing!

More on the topic of Supernatural. Season eleven premiers on the seventh of October and I will be starting to review the show and I am definitely looking forward to it. I’ve been really invested in the show since high school so it’s going to be great getting to share what I think of each episode with so many other people.

Finally, the last Supernatural related thing and something I am really excited about is that I will be reaching the one hundredth chapter in my Supernatural fanfiction! 100 chapters!

This is the longest fic I’ve written thus far and I am so incredibly happy with it. To celebrate, I will be counting down my top eleven (because they’re on season eleven) favourite episodes of the show right here on this blog!

But that’s not the only countdown I’ll be doing next month! Starting on the first this blog will get really busy as I’ll be counting down my top ten favourite episodes of The Walking Dead. This is all leading up to the season six premier (which I will be reviewing) on the eleventh!

The Walking Dead

Now The Walking Dead returning may not seem like announcement worthy stuff, but I have literally been on the edge of my seat waiting for season six so it has to be celebrated!

Also! The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire is coming out next month! What is TABINOF? It’s the book written by the one and only Dan and Phil! Dan and Phil are two Youtubers I have been watching since I was in high school. I am a major fan of both of them and they’ve actually been a huge inspiration in a lot of the things I do.

I think the only other time I was this excited for a book was when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was being released. I remember exactly where I was and what time it was when Dan and Phil released the trailer announcing their book. I got home a couple hours later and preordered my copy online.

Now, after months of waiting, it’s almost here. I will definitely be talking about this book on jcarsonwrites, probably multiple times because I’m so excited for it and I’m so proud of Dan and Phil for writing it and everything else they’ve done.

All these things are so very exciting! And while majority of the things on both blogs will be remaining the same, all these things did have particular influence over one weekly thing I do on jcarsonwrites: Names of the Week.

This month the names will be those of Youtubers, characters from The Walking Dead, and actors/characters from Supernatural. Normally I only post five names each week, but October knows no bounds and some weeks there’s definitely more than five names.

So much is happening in October! When filling out my calendar and writing my lists of things to do, it looks slightly intimidating and yet also exhilarating. While it looks like a lot of work, it’s writing and it’s writing about things I love so I can’t wait for October to get here so I can celebrate all these amazing things with all of you!

Thank you so much for sticking with me so far and I look forward to celebrating what definitely looks to be a wonderful October with you!
