Dancing With The Stars Week Nine Recap: “Showstopper Night”

Dancing With the Stars S21

We’re almost at the end of the competition! Next week is the semi-finals! What? How did that happen?!

Showstoppers night was full of amazing dances and some incredibly heartbreaking moments. Here are the scores for last night:

Song: “Back it Up” – Prince Royce feat. Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull
Score: 24

Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas

*Perfect Score*
*Perfect Night*
*Eliminated*

Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson

Tamar Braxton & Val Chmerkovkiy
Dance: Contemporary
Song: “Wicked Game” – James Vincent McMorrow
Score: 22
*Lowest Score of the Night*
*It should be noted that Tamar and Val’s score is actually based on a video of their dress rehearsal as Tamar wasn’t there for the actual dance. She was taken to the hospital during dress rehearsal to be treated for pneumonia. She returned later for the Showstopper number and if she hadn’t they would have been eliminated for the same reason as Kim & Tony.*

Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess
Dance: Quickstep
Song: “A Cool Cat in Town” – Tape Five
Score: 28

But it wasn’t just the one dance the couples had to do.

They also had their Showstopper numbers to perform in which two of the couples teamed up to recreate a number from a well known show or musical.

Not only that, but the celebs in each team had to dance with each other for thirty seconds without their pro dance partners.

Here are those scores:

Alek & Lindsay and Carlos & Witney
Dance: Paso Doble
Song: “We Will Rock You” – Queen
Show: We Will Rock You
Score: 24
*Lowest Showstopper Score*

Alexa & Mark and Bindi & Derek
Dance: Charleston
Song: “All That Jazz” & “Hot Honey Rag” – Kander and Ebb
Show: Chicago
Score: 30
*Perfect Score*

Nick & Sharna and Tamar & Val
Dance: Rumba
Song: “Hey Jude” – The Beatles
Show: Love by Cirque du Soleil
Score: 27

This was such an emotional show. Alexa and Mark’s dance had me tears, it was so beautiful and Alexa sharing her story was absolutely magnificent.

Many of the couples were feeling the pressure, Alek and Lindsay were trying to prove that they deserved to go the semi-finals while Bindi and Derek were trying to deal with all the extra pressure added from being on top of the leader board so often.

Next week is the semi-finals which means a couple had to leave tonight. After a lot of waitoing to see who would be called safe it came down to two couples: Carlos & Witney and Alexa & Mark.

alexa and mark

It was husband against wife and it was heartbreaking. In the end, Alexa & Mark were eliminated and Carlos’s reaction broke my heart. Alexa said she was glad to go out on such a great night, but that didn’t make it any easier for her husband.

What did you think of this elimination? Who do you think will be making it to the finals?

Dancing With the Stars 2015 Semi-Finals

Dancing With the Stars

It’s the semi-finals!

This week the couples had two dances to do. Like every week, they had their normal couples dance. They also had their Judge’s Choice dance to do. This dance is one that is coached by one of the four judges and will be judged by the other three.

The competition has been tough from the start, but now they’re competing to go to the finals. Can I be honest? I don’t want any of them to go. Can they just award the trophy to all of them?

Now, because it’s the semi-finals we also get to learn a little more about each of the stars which is both wonderful an slightly sad when you realize that it won’t be long before another of these couples is going home.

The scores for this week:

Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkobskiy
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Song: “Earned It” – The Weekend
Score: 38

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Song: “The Time of My Life” – David Cook
Score: 36
*Lowest Score of the Night*
Noah proposed! Oh my goodness, that was adorable! As soon as he took her hand and started saying how the song was like what she had done for him, I was like, “Is he gonna… Is he gonna…” And he did! Oh my gosh, congratulations to Noah and Jamie!

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker
Dance: Contemporary
Song: “Work Song” – Hozier
Score: 40
*Perfect Score*
*Tied for First*
*Perfect Night!*

Nastia Liukin and Sasha Farber (Standing in for Derek Hough)
Dance: Quickstep
Song: “Feelin’ Good” – Christina Grimmie
Score: 40
*Perfect Score*
*Tied for First*
*Perfect Night*

Judge’s Choice Dances:

This is the first time this has ever been done. Each of the judges picked one of the couples to mentor this week and were involved in everything, from the dance tot he music to the concept. Absolutely everything.

When it comes to scoring, each of the couples will only be judged by three and the scores will be out of 30 instead of 40.

Rumer and Val
Judge: Bruno
Dance: Contemporary
Song: “Theme from Swan Lake, Op. 20” – Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
